Built in Berlin by Ludwig Loewe & Co. in 1895, this Chilean Model 1895 Mauser is chambered in 7x57mm with a 29.5-inch round barrel and carries serial A9197. All serial numbers match, and about 95 percent of the original blue survives with light surface oxidation in a few spots. The stock is very good, showing light handling marks and a crisp cartouche on the right side of the butt. The action is smooth and works correctly.

A manually operated centerfire rifle is legal for deer and bear across Pennsylvania, and 7x57 is a capable deer cartridge, so an owner could carry this one into the November 28 to December 13 firearms season. Most buyers will not. An all-matching Loewe-made 1895 with this much original finish is a collector's rifle first, and the long barrel and military stock suit a display rack or a vintage military match better than a tree stand. Anyone who does hunt it should check the digest for the Special Regulations Area counties.
