This Brazilian Model 1908 Mauser was made by DWM between about 1908 and 1914 and is chambered in 7mm with a 29.25-inch round barrel, serial B5687. The numbers do not match. The barrel has gone to a dark grey patina and the receiver finish is lighter and thinned, but the receiver markings are sharp and the Brazilian crest is intact. The stock shows light handling marks, a six-pointed star cartouche on the right and a rack mark on the left. The bore is bright and shiny and the action is smooth and functions correctly.
A bright bore and a working action make this a shooter, and Pennsylvania allows manually operated centerfire rifles for deer and bear statewide, so a 7mm bolt gun is a legal choice for the November 28 to December 13 firearms deer season and the November 21 to 24 bear days. The intact crest also suits a Mauser collection. Hunters in the Special Regulations Area counties around Philadelphia and Pittsburgh should read the digest first.
