This Tula Arsenal Mosin began life in 1938 as a standard M91/30 and was shortened in a 1950s Soviet refurbishment program to the Model 1891/59 pattern, leaving a 20.5-inch round barrel and a carbine-length rifle shaped like an M44 but without the folding bayonet. Serial YA3156 matches throughout, the left side of the receiver carries an import mark, and the bore is bright with strong rifling. The finish shows light wear consistent with storage and limited postwar service, and the action is smooth and correct. Rifles of this type went to Eastern Bloc allies such as Bulgaria.
This is the Mosin built for walking. A 20.5-inch 7.62x54R bolt gun is a manually operated centerfire rifle, legal for Pennsylvania deer and bear statewide, and short enough to carry comfortably through thick cover during the November 28 to December 13 firearms deer season or the November 21 to 24 bear season. Check the digest for the Special Regulations Area counties around Philadelphia and Pittsburgh before you hunt there.
