Beautiful Cased Set of Francois Peniet Pistols W/ Shoulder Stock

A cased pair of flintlock-era pistols by Francois Peniet of Paris, made around 1800 to 1810, in .54 caliber with 9-inch barrels, sold with a detachable shoulder stock. The barrels keep about 90 percent of their original blue and are engraved and gold-inlaid with scrolls around the sights and the barrel address, which reads Peniet A Paris in gold. The locks are polished and engraved Peniet Arquebusier De Roi Paris. The iron mountings are gold plated. The wood has been refinished and is excellent, as is the stock. No serial number.

Peniet worked in Paris and later under Nicolas Noel Boutet, and the case and its accessories show that Boutet influence. For a Pennsylvania collector of fine European arms, this is a complete presentation set with the shoulder stock, case and fittings intact. The gold inlay and the amount of original blue surviving on the barrels are what set the pair apart.
